ARAFAT AND THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION

I
waited on the Lord for a definite confirmation before going forward with this
particular understanding on certain key Bible prophecies. I believe that I
share the mind of Christ in what is presented here. The reader is encouraged to
analyze this information in the light of scripture. This understanding I have of scripture discussed goes
against what over 95% of the dispensationalist-influenced church teaches. Therefore,
like any other time a person hears something that conflicts with
doctrine that they have previously been taught, I pray that this
information gets an even break and the reader seeks the Lord (not a
pastor) for the more correct interpretation. When you're looking at prophecy
with the wrong understanding, you obviously will not recognize it when it
happens. It is very beneficial for Satan to introduce intentional
misconceptions and misinterpretations of prophetic signification into the church
through his false prophets. This method was used effectively when many did not
recognize Jesus as the Messiah because he didn't meet their preconceived
notions. The same tactics are being arranged for the Antichrist so that
many 'Christians' will be unable to identify him as such because he will not do
several things that they have been taught that the Antichrist is supposed to
do.
A few years back I came across some information from Israeli Author and
Prophecy Club speaker Marv Byers. Some of this information comes from him and I
am not taking credit for it. I have over time found some disagreements I
have with his teachings, but overall I must admit that he did take
the dispensationalist blinders off my eyes so that I could see Daniel
11:21-45 in a different light. This scripture is considered proof-text on what
the Antichrist will do and what he will be like, based on no other authority
than opinion. It's like 'the
song that never ends'. Nobody seems to care who started singing it, they just enjoy
the song and teaching it to others. The main theme of this song seems to
be that the Antichrist walks into a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem in the
middle of a seven-year tribulation and performs some sort of an abomination
there and blasphemes God. I think I know the identity of the writer of
this song and a similar ballad about Daniel 9:27.
This modest little devil wishes to remain anonymous, though.
As well as Daniel 11:21-45 having modern applications, it was also fulfilled
in the person of Antiochus Epiphanes in about 168 B.C. as a foreshadowing.
Well-known Bible scholar Matthew Henry presents good documentation of this in
his commentary. This is known as an ‘apotelesmatic application’ of a prophecy
among Biblical scholars (like history repeating itself). However, we are
concerned with the future ramifications of these prophecies. Daniel 11:31
describes the setting up of the Abomination of Desolation. In reference to the
future fulfillment, the Lord Jesus warned in Matthew 24:15-21
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso
readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee
into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to
take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field
return back to take his clothes. 19 And woe unto them that are with child,
and to them that give suck in those days! 20 But pray ye that your flight
be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21 For then shall be
great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this
time, no, nor ever shall be.
The correct understanding of the Abomination of
Desolation is therefore very important because it marks the beginning of what
is known as ‘The Great Tribulation’. According to Daniel 12:11 this tribulation
lasts 1290 days not 7 years. I will go into that more later.
Now lets look
at the verses that are supposed to apply to the Antichrist. I will not try to
explain every phrase involved since there are segments where the meaning is
unclear to me or is unfulfilled.
Daniel 11:21
And in his estate
shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the
kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries
(And in his estate shall stand
up a vile person) prior
verses show this to be speaking of the area north of Israel. Yasser Arafat has
given different answers as to his birth place including both Jerusalem and
Egypt. However, he rose to prominence in Lebanon with the P.L.O. (to whom they shall not give the honour
of the kingdom) Arafat could not rely
on kingly lineage to establish him like many Middle East leaders, he worked his
way up and eventually got himself elected President of the Palestinian National
Authority. (but he shall come in peaceably, and
obtain the kingdom by flatteries) This is Arafat’s (the Nobel Peace Prize winner) modus
operandi, he appears peaceful until he gets a foothold. Then the terrorist
comes out.
Verse
22
And
with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be
broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant.
(And with the arms of a flood) This denotes military support which came from several sources
like the terrorist factions Hamas, Hesbollah and his own P.L.O., not to mention
the countries surrounding Israel. (shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be
broken) Strong’s Concordance shows synonym for
overflown as conquered or overwhelmed and broken is likened to brokenhearted or
hurt. The Israelis were worn down by his terrorist tactics (yea, also the prince of the covenant.) The phrase
‘Prince of the covenant’ refers to the leader of Israel similar to the Jews
being known as ‘children of the covenant’ (see Acts 3:25) Israel’s Prime
Minister Yitzhak Rabin was ‘broken’ before Arafat in more ways than one. Rabin
felt desperate enough to enter into a peace treaty with an untrustworthy
adversary and he was assassinated not long afterwards.
Arafat released the following statement
after Rabin’s funeral:
"I
loved one of our cousins. He was a real partner with me in the peace process.
He lost his life for peace, not only for Palestine and Israel but for the whole
area.”
Verse 23
And
after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully: for he shall come up,
and shall become strong with a small people.
(And after the league made with him) This
is the Oslo Accord he signed with Rabin on September 13, 1993. (he shall work deceitfully) Secretary
of State Madeleine Albright conceded on July 31, 1997, that "the United
States could not verify" that the PLO "is complying with its accords
with Israel." (Jewish Telegraphic Agency, August 1, 1997). A list of those
violations included: failing to disarm or outlaw terrorist groups; failing to
transfer terrorists to Israel for prosecution; failing to change the 30 out of
33 clauses in the PLO Covenant that call for Israel's destruction or urge
violence against Israel; failing to punish PLO factions that engage in
terrorism; making speeches calling for "jihad" against Israel and
praising the killers of Jews as 'heroes' and 'martyrs'; using maps that depict
all of Israel as "Palestine"; and posting anti-Semitic and
anti-Israel material on the official PLO web site. (for he shall come up, and shall become strong with a small
people.) The
Palestinians are a relatively small group of people when compared to the populations
of most nations of the world.
Verse 24
He
shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he
shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers;
he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: yea, and he
shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.
This
merely describes the unrestrained freedom Arafat has had to go where he wants
and do what he wants, including setting up spies and terrorists in Israel’s
vulnerable places.
Verses 25-26
25 And he shall stir up his power and his courage against
the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be
stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand:
for they shall forecast devices against him. 26 Yea, they
that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him, and his army shall
overflow: and many shall fall down slain.
I
would consider this as yet unfulfilled. It describes a confrontation with
Arafat and Epyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Some would snicker at this
prospect, but the truth is that Arafat and Mubarak are not real friends like
the Western media portrays. Yasser Arafat has spent time in Egyptian jails in
the past and has been implicated in attempted coups upon the Egyptian
Government. Middle East intelligence sources have reported in the past that
Arafat has infiltrated Mubarak’s government with his ‘Sons of Terror’. Yasser
would receive little resistance from the surrounding Arab countries since most
of them are strongly opposed to Egypt due to it having a civil secular
government instead of a strick fundamentalist Islamic one, and they believe
that form of government needs to be destroyed. Off the cuff, I’d say that
Mubarak will be poisoned soon or meet up with
some other untimely death.
Verses 27-28
27 And both these kings' hearts shall be to do
mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for
yet the end shall be at the time appointed. 28 Then
shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be
against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his
own land.
(And
both these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at
one table)
Arafat attended a conference in Cairo,Egypt on Monday, October 23, 2000
sponsored by Mubarak with several other Arab leaders attending. ( but it shall not prosper: for yet the end shall be at
the time appointed) The Arab
leaders declared an economic and diplomatic ‘jihad’ against the state of
Israel, but nothing very devastating to Israel came out of that declaration. (Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and
his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and
return to his own land.) The Saudis promised Arafat and the Palestinians ONE BILLION
DOLLARS for their cause. Arafat returned to Israel and stepped up the violence
and the demands.
Verse 31
And
arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength,
and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the
abomination that maketh desolate.
(And arms shall stand on his part,
and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength) This is the Palestinian soldiers and guerilla fighters who
desecrate the holy site of the Jews. The word sanctuary in the Strong’s
Concordance #4720 is miqdash in the Hebrew and has chapel, hallowed part or
holy place for synonyms. The Wailing Wall or Western Wall is the most sacred
site accessible to the Jewish people and is undoubtedly considered their
‘sanctuary of strength’. It is treated as an open synagogue.
Some would surely argue that the Arabs
have no interest in the Wailing Wall. I found the situation to be just the
opposite.
The Arafat-appointed Mufti of
Jerusalem, Sheikh Ikrama Sabri, who is the PLO's senior religious authority for
the city, said: "The Al-Buraq Wall [Western Wall] and its plaza are a
Muslim religious property, and the Israeli government's decisions do not affect
it...The Al-Buraq Wall is part of the Al Aqsa Mosque. The Jews have no relation
to it." (Al Ayyam [the Palestinian Authority newspaper], November 22,
1997)
Yasir Arafat himself remarked:
"That is not the Western Wall at all, but a Moslem shrine." ( Israeli
Newspaper Ma'ariv, Oct. 11, 1996)
Just in
case people might think that their position might have changed over time, this
Mufti Sheikh Ikrama Sabri reiterated the Muslim sentiment just recently.
Jerusalem Mufti Shiekh Ekrima
Sabri yesterday issued a fatwa (Muslim
religious edict) proclaiming the entire
Temple Mount area, seven stories
below and seven stories above belongs to
the Muslim Waqf authority. The
area, continued the Mufti, is the
property of God and cannot be transfered
to anyone else. Speak ing at a press
conference at his office on the Temple
Mount, Sabri said the Western Wall and
the plaza in front of it are part of
the holy Mount and are also Waqf
property. He stressed there were no
political overtones in the timing or
content of the fatwa , but that the
fatwa compelled a billion Muslims around
the world to act accordingly.

Once Muslims have it in their
possession, it is almost impossible to believe that they will reverence the area,
especially knowing how important it is to the Jews. They will pollute the
‘sanctuary of strength.’ In October of
last year they desecrated Joseph’s tomb; Joseph being someone the Muslims
claimed to have had respect for. Here is a news report of another incident
occurring on January 12, 2001 which should give a little insight into what
they’re capable of in the way of polluting the sanctuary of strength:

officials, conducted a hate-filled rally

Israeli flag.
The hatred - which was manifest in
Ramallah, the city in which two Israeli
soldiers were brutally lynched three
months ago - also featured the burning
of an Israeli flag, speeches against Clinton's
bridging proposals, and
calls not to give up on the "right
of return" or Jerusalem. Afterwards,
some of the demonstrators made their way
to the northern entrance of the
city, where they began shooting at IDF
soldiers and attacking them with
large rocks.

shall take away the daily sacrifice) A
temple does not need to be rebuilt in order for the sanctuary to be polluted or
the daily sacrifice to be taken away. Notice Daniel doesn’t use the word ‘temple’
and in the New Testament when Jesus refers to the Abomination of Desolation in
Matthew 24 and Mark 13 he doesn’t use the word ‘temple’ either. In fact, in
Mark 13:14 he says “ But when ye shall see the
abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing
where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them
that be in Judea flee into the mountains:”
This sacrifice that is taken away is assumed to be animal
sacrifice which requires a temple according to the old covenant. The italicized
word sacrifice was added to the King James Bible to add clarity of meaning and
is not in the original Hebrew. This is a different type of sacrifice than the
one described in Daniel 9:27. The word ‘daily’ in Strong’s Concordance #8548 is
tamiyd and means constant, continual or regular. On a continual daily basis,
the Jewish people have been going to the Wailing Wall and offering their
sacrifice of prayer and worship.
King David said in the Psalms:
Let my prayer be set forth
before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as
the evening sacrifice.

sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

this understanding:

If it is indeed the Palestinians who place the abomination of
desolation (which I believe strongly that it is) then this abomination won’t be
a statue or a sacrificed pig like is taught in dispensationalist circles. For
the Arabs consider those things defiled and unclean just as the Jews do. In my
research, I have found that the Palestinians seem to reverence their own flag
more than anything else. It would give them no greater pleasure than to place
their flag at the Western Wall. Thereby proving (in their minds) once and for
all that their god Allah is greater than the Jewish God JHVH/Yahweh. Below is a picture of
Palestinians proudly displaying their flag over the Jaffa Gate. How much more so
do you suppose they want to place it at the Wailing Wall or the Temple Mount
area in general?

Consider this: The Palestinian flag of which it was once against the law to display, represents a god and a religion diametrically opposed to that of the Jews. If they were able to place it at the Temple Mount/Western Wall this would signify that the Jews have lost access and sovereignty to holiest place on earth to them; the land being claimed in the name of a pagan deity.
I got in touch with a rabbi and
asked him what he thought about this possibility. He said:
Yes, of
course I consider the blood-dripped flag of the PLO above Jerusalem an abomination.”

Israel Harel, a prominent Jewish settler
figure, religious right-wing commentator and editor of Jewish Magazine
Nekuda, has written in an editorial:
”If
they could only understand that many, many Jews draw the line at the idea of an
Arab flag flying over the Temple Mount and would consider such a development to
constitute in essence a casus belli. These Jews would regard an Arab flag over
the Temple Mount as a desecration of Judaism's holiest site and as a symbol of
the scorn and humiliation that this site has already experienced. They would
regard that possibility, together with all its unavoidable practical
consequences, as having the same symbolic importance as the sacrifice of a pig
in the Temple in Jerusalem during the days of Matityahu the Hasmonean and his
sons.“

Arafat has not left his intentions a
secret:

The picture below is only intended as a visual aid
to give the reader an idea of what to expect for the Abomination of Desolation and
in no way is intended to offend Jewish readers (I love Israel). This is not to say that I don't love the Palestinian people as well, because I do. However, I strongly disagree with the violent hatred and terrorist tactics employed by Islamic fundamentalists in their ranks.
Contrary to the popular party line teaching, the Antichrist does
not set up the abomination. In fact, he may very well be responsible for
removing it and allowing the Jews access again to their Wall and maybe more.
This would come at such a well-orchestrated time when Israel is so wearied and
desperate for a savior. A man who would finally bring peace between Israel and
her enemies---something the decoy Antichrist Clinton couldn’t do.
Verses 37-38
Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of
women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. 38 But
in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew
not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and
pleasant things.
(Neither shall he
regard the God of his fathers) Generally speaking everyone who calls himself an Arab traces his
ancestry back to two main fathers, Abraham and Ishmael. They will all honor
those fathers, but they refuse to honor the God of Abraham and Ishmael which is
JHVH/Yahweh. In fact, the Qur’an teaches that Abraham and Ishmael built
the ‘House of Allah’ (Qur'an: Translation of the meaning, 2:124-132). Ishmael was very aware of the God his father Abraham worshiped. He
was present to witness the miracle JHVH/Yahweh performed in Sarah’s womb
so that Isaac could be born. It was JHVH/Yahweh
who blessed Ishmael and made of him a great nation (Genesis 17:20). Ishmael
was circumcised according to the covenant of JHVH/Yahweh (Genesis
17:23-26). All Muslims including Arafat honor their fathers, but not the God
of their fathers. In fact, they chant ‘Allah Akbar’ during their prayers
each day, which, contrary to what they let on, doesn’t mean “Allah is great”
but “Allah is greater”. Greater
than whom?? JHVH/Yahweh?
(nor the desire of women)
The man described
does not find pleasure or delight in women. Yasser Arafat finds no natural
pleasure in women, indeed, Yasser Arafat is a homosexual who got married very
late in life at the age of 62 to try and cover that fact up. Even the Koran
speaks against it:
[27.55] What! do you indeed approach men lustfully rather
than women? Nay, you are a people who act ignorantly (Qur’an--chapter titled ‘the ant’)
Several sources have confirmed this in the past. Recently, news
correspondent J.R.Nyquist reported on this ‘secret’:
According to the former head of Romanian intelligence, Lt. Gen. Ion
Mihai Pacepa, one of the highest ranking communist defectors of all time,
Rahman al-Qudwa became an important political ally of the communist bloc
following the death of Egypt's president, Gamal Abdul Nasser, in 1970. Gen.
Pacepa's account of Rahman's intimate relations with the communist bloc is
related in a book entitled "Red Horizons." As it happens, Pacepa
tells us that the communists trusted Rahman because he was a voracious
homosexual. This alone made him a workable Kremlin puppet, because once the
Romanian intelligence services had taped Rahman's sex sessions with men and
boys, he was completely in their hands. Afterwards, Rahman's friendship for the
communist bloc would be permanent -- if he valued his growing popularity in the
Arab world.
Rahman al-Qudwa is better known as Yasser Arafat, the chairman of
the PLO since 1968 and the president of the Palestinian Authority --

(But in his estate shall he
honour the God of forces) Allah is known as the ‘Moon God’
or the ‘War God’; a god of forces. (and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold,
and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.) As it was alluded to earlier,
Abraham and Ishmael did not worship the Moon god Allah, who, according to the Encyclopedia of Religion, has a preislamic origin which traces back to the Babylonian god Bel (Robert A. Morey, Islam Unveiled: The True Desert Storm Shermans Dale, Pennsylvania: The Scholar's Press, 1991, p.46 ). Allah is hardly the same god as that of the Bible.
Verse 39
Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange
god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them
to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
Arafat is trying to divide the
land right now. He especially wants to split Jerusalem in half. Zechariah 14:2
states ‘ For I will gather all
nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the
houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into
captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.’ This sounds similar to what the Israelis are forced to endure
in verses 32-34 of the chapter we are discussing. No wonder Jesus said “when ye therefore
shall see the abomination of desolation...” Matthew 24:15 and in a parallel
passage “and when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed
with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judea flee to the mountains…”
Luke 21:20-21
The following verses
are generally attributed to the Antichrist and the Battle of Armageddon.
Verses 40-44
40 And
at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of
the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with
horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall
overflow and pass over. 41 He shall enter also into the
glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape
out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. 42 He
shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt
shall not escape. 43 But he shall have power over the
treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and
the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. 44 But
tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he
shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
There are several reasons why
this doesn’t fit the Antichrist and the Battle of Armageddon, but rather someone considerably less powerful than the Antichrist involved in battles unrelated to Armageddon. The person described in the verses above
is being attacked by Egypt and Syria and he doesn’t even have the power to
conquer Edom or Moab (modern day Jordan). At the Battle of Armageddon, the
Antichrist gathers the armies of the world into the valley of Megiddo to fight
the Lord (Revelation 16:12-16; 19:19). This man goes after the treasures of
Egypt. The Antichrist controls the economic powers of the world, enough that he
can cause everyone to take a mark to be a part of his economic system. The
small treasures of Egypt would be nothing to him, but to Arafat they would be
great wealth. Also, Arafat is already reported to have power over Lybia and the
Sudan (modern day Ethiopia). Quadafi is a puppet who is surrounded by Arafat’s
sons of terror.
Verse 45
And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the
seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none
shall help him.
It has long
been in Yasser Arafat’s plans to set his government headquarters in Jerusalem.
"The victory march will continue until the
Palestinian flag flies in Jerusalem and in all of Palestine - from the
Jordan River to the Meditteranean Sea and from Rosh Hanikra to Eilat."

After everything that Yasser Arafat has
done and will soon do, is it any wonder that he shall come to his end, and none shall help
him. This
sounds a little different than the Antichrist and False Prophet being grabbed
and thrown into the lake of fire when the Lord returns as well as the Antichrist’s
armies being destroyed by the sword out of the mouth of the Lord (see
Revelation 19:19-21).
Since we are discussing what the Antichrist is incorrectly
accused of doing, I will interject a brief explanation of another verse that
the Christian church generally misinterprets and tries to tie it in with the
abomination of desolation and the Antichrist, and that is Daniel 9:27.
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in
the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease,
and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until
the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
(And
he) Jesus (shall confirm the covenant) This is the same covenant spoken
of in Daniel 9:4, Genesis 17 and all throughout the Old Testament. Hebrews 9:16
“For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the
testator. please see also Heb.9:15. Jesus confirmed the covenant by dying. (with many) but not all because many also
rejected his offering;
Galatians 3:17, which is
quite possibly the best verse in the New Testament to show the Lord’s
fulfillment of Daniel 9:27, says “And this I say, that the covenant,
that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was
four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise
of none effect.” Emphasis mine. If your candidate for the Antichrist confirms a
covenant with Israel for seven years, then you have the wrong guy.
